Hi guys. Welcome to Part 4 of My Personal Art History. Today I want to share the Handmade Jewelry period of my life. It was not planned at all, a total impulsive decision after I had given a little friend a pair of clip on earrings that were broken. So I thought I could find a replacement pair or parts to fix it. Instead, I ended up telling Craig an hour or two later that I was going to start making jewelry and selling it because I had just spent two to three hundred dollars on jewelry making supplies like beads, wire, findings and such. As you will see at first after Craig made me two beautiful jewellery holders, we set up a sales table at a city fair of sorts trying to sell my new jewelry. After a long tiring day, we decided selling that way was not feasible for us. Then I discovered Etsy.com, set up my new shop called A Bergie Creation. It was a blast for ten years selling pieces all over the world. Watch the video to find out why it ended after ten years.
Hello everyone! Hope everyone is having a great February so far. Recently I have been needing to rest more than I normally need to. So when I am able to be productive creating, I have been trying to turn many of my mini art works into jewelry and finally getting those
pieces photographed, edited and then listed in my shop at Etsy (A Bergie Creation). But I have found time to also work on some new polymer clay pieces and after watching a channel I enjoy watching Matts Crazy Art, I also got inspired to work with all the wire I bought a while ago. Check out the video that inspired this pendant I made last night. Matt has a really great attitude about enjoying creating. He is funny and very encouraging!

What have you been working on lately? Are there any new skills you have learned or are hoping to learn? I have been wanting to try using the merino roving wool I bought a while ago. Needle felting is another fun art making technique. The polymer clay is still a favourite but I must confess it is getting more challenging for my not so strong hands to manipulate. A bummer, but I am not giving up. In fact the next few pieces are some recent clay works I have completed.

Couldn't resist sharing my newest petri dish technique pieces. Yes, more large heart pendants eventually for my Etsy Shop and some fun coasters. These pieces aren't very deep and yet really cool effects are still possible. So go ahead and try this technique!
Hard to believe we are five days away from that time of year that so many folks seem to stress out over. Instead of stress and and incurring debt, I would rather focus on sharing all things creative. Recently, I was dabbling in the newest resin trend, the Petri Dish technique. It it so addictive. There are a pile of great tutorials on the subject on YouTube, so this newest video is all about what my pieces ended up looking like and any lessons I learned.
You do need to use epoxy resin, freshly mixed. The longer it sits once mixed, the resin's curing process makes it a lot more difficult to impossible for the inks to do their thing, the thing that is called the petri dish effect.

As well, one big lesson learned was to not use my butane mini torch to eliminate bubbles in the resin, when using small silicone molds. The torch is too hot and the silicone actually burns, therefore ruining your molds and the piece you took time to create. Best way to remove those pesky bubbles in small molds is to use a lighter flame or heat gun, or if you can make it work, a straw that you blow through. That last one never seems to work well for me. Drool tends to dominate, running down the straw, about to ruin the resin.

Materials Required
Silicone molds
Fresh mixed Epoxy Resin - I use Art Resin right now
Alcohol Inks that are not mixatifs or opaque
White opaque alcohol ink - it seems that Pinata by Jacquard is used most
Pipettes if you need to draw ink from a larger bottle of ink
A matt to keep our surface from staining
A heat gun or flame if you want the bubbles removed (do that before adding alcohol inks - alcohol is flammable!)
A dust cover to keep pieces clean while curing

Yay, finally Friday! Months ago, I planned to have regular Tutorial YouTube Channel Recommendations. As usual, I have not been consistent in doing that. I keep learning so much from so many great people out there that I thought it would be valuable to recommend these great art making tutorials. I like creating videos as well, but it's only because of all I have learned and will continue to learn that I am able to expand my skills.
Today I want to share a new very fun favourite, Susan from TurtleSoup Beads! She is fun , very good at explaining and keeping it real. I love her bright colour palette and cheery, pretty designs. She mainly shares polymer clay tutorials, but also is clearly a beading artist. She shares wonderful tips and inspirational ideas not just for beads but how you can transform them into jewellery pieces.
It is tough to select a few good video tutorials because I love them so much. Needless to say, below is a large selection of some of my favourite tutorials. Bonus is, a tour of Susan's studio! We all love studio tours!

I just created the video below for my Etsy shop blog. It is about what I have been creating lately. Since what I create and trying to sell those creations intermingles so tightly with Heartfully Creating, I am sharing this on both blog sites. It's meant to reach as many people as possible! -------------------- A Few Ramblings About Creating...
It has been a busy few months artistically speaking. It seems that once I find a technique or process I like, I want to make some in every colour. It is much different than when I was working only in two dimensions. A canvas in front of me and a palette of brightly pigmented paints, crying out to be smooshed, combined, and swiped into what would become a beautiful work of art. Well, hopefully it would.
My paintings were usually at least 16" x 20" inches or more and could take days and days to weeks and weeks. It all depended on what it was, how I wanted it to look and if it was turning out how I wanted. Some artists like to meticulously plan out their masterpiece, methodically, critically and succinctly. Not me, I try to but it just doesn't happen. A speck of an idea may spontaneously plunk into my mind, fuelling what would become my next artistic creation. But planning and agonizing over how it will be played out just doesn't feel natural. In three dimensional land, sculpting in polymer clay, making jewellery, needle felting, and such can be done in the same manner.

great lady! You might want to try it. In fact, I even made a handmade note book using index cards, a hole punch and some heavy wire. As for the discipline of banking my ideas, still too impulsive and I forget to look at my bank. That's my fault. Not giving up. It really could work if I followed it through. It doesn't help that I stink at actual banking, spending what I don't have - impulsively!

A while back I was creating little Tweetees. If you follow H/C then you know I seem to get addicted to making the beads which means, it takes a while before I get the pieces turned into wearable art to sell in my shop. (I need to try to cover the cost of my art making supplies some way!)
Tweetees, The name reflects the cuteness of these little bird dangle drops. Pretty sure Tweet and Tweety might be copyright hence the spelling deviation. My beads are created to design earrings, bracelets, necklaces and such. Today after much work on a variety of bead styles slowed down, I finally got to post my first Tweetee earrings in my Etsy shop A Bergie Creation.

I finally used some of my polymer clay tube beads and wanted to share it here before I list it in my Etsy shop, A Bergie Creation. It is another day closer to summer! Depending where you are, there are early, mid or late spring flowers. Here in Thunder Bay, our spring garden didn't fare well. Out of about sixty tulip bulbs planted, we had about two! Yes, we fertilized when we planted them :0( As well, our crocuses, (or is it croac-eye?) and daffodils are no more and it looks like our large oriental poppy perennial plant is surrendering to the same fate as the spring bulbs! Clearly, I stink at gardening. It doesn't help that our entire street, right next to our garden was all dug up for about 2-3 months last year. But, the odds are my green thumb lost all circulation and shall not flourish. (Hey "Flourish," that makes me think of dear Christi Friesen's book of that title)
