Level Super Beginners To Procreate, Like ME

We were about to campout in our living room last night. But before I settled down into my wheelchair seat to watch Daniel Craig's James Bond with my Craig, I was determined to edited the video. I had just made. Silly me thought it would go quickly! But nope. This new Learn With Me video is a good 45 minutes of Playing Around discovering and playing around with few of the bazillion Procreate Paint brushes on my IpadPro. Still slowly learning bit by bit but I could't wait to show you the great artistic possibilities.Watch Video Below

First of all, Here Is a new digital drawingProcreate on my IpadPro. I have been working, so far i am calling her Bluebelle. She's a work in progress.

Now all you Creatives, Check out Anita's New Fun Video Below. Took her about 5 hours in total to edit it, 330am and back at by 10am (we lost sleep thanks to Spring clock spring ahead - (Something called Daylight Savings Time)  Editing me trying to clean it up and make it look as best as possible. From lighting to colouring, angles and inserting text as needed. Hope you like it and I hope you like it even a little!

My First Transitioning To Digital Video. iPad Pro & Apple Pencil 2nd Generation

 Hello my fellow creators.  To know more about why I am about to share in this post and video, please don't forget to check the previous post and video here. It's a week of firsts for me. Not just my first attempt at filming the highlights of using my first ever  new iPad Pro 11 inch, 2021, along with of course my first Apple Pencil, the second generation. This is the biggest transition in my life since no longer walking at fourteen or so, to living on my own at 17, to being able to hire and manage my personal care attendants, to marriage, and these days the. biggest and saddest transition for me personally,  from accepting that I can't work with all the art supplies I love. Instead of avoiding creating, it made more sense to embrace modern technology, making the most it. Adaptive aids are used to give many living with disabilities a voice, the ability to walk, sit comfortably, sleep better, hear for the first time, to better. To enhance relationships with communication devices among countless other things like extending life thanks to pacemakers, medical treatments and countless other advancements. Without my power wheelchair that can tilt, not only would I not be able to get around on my own, I wouldn't be able to get rest at night when I don't have enough personal care attendants to help me in and out of bed. So technologies and advancements like that, I have helped and leaps and bounds and it ways most of us would've never imagined. And it includes the ability to make art in different ways, instead of not being able to see you anymore.

Digital Drawing Talk: Tablets To Drawing Software on A Budget

For about 7  years I have been illustrating using a Wacomb Bamboo Fun Tablet with primarily Sketchbook Pro6. But for over four decades I drew and painted with actual physical art materials...paint, paper, pencils, markers and canvas. For me the reasons to try digital art making is because it helps me to overcome the physical barriers that arise as my muscles deteriorate due to my SMA. All I now need is a tablet, my computer and my creativity. No easels, heavy equipment, messy clean up. Don't get me wrong, all of that is great if you can create what you want and have the ability to manage all that goes with it. I am just trying to say that thanks to technology, those who want to create but have limited arm/hand/finger mobility and strength, not to give up. That digital drawing devices and software make virtual painting and drawing a possibility.

Based on my experience so far in digital world, I have say what I have learned to help anyone else like me. Make sure you get a drawing tablet that has PRESSURE SENSITIVITY. This has been my biggest frustration. When I started out, it was as if I was a three year old using a pencil for the first time. Turns out there are drawing programs and devices that can help your experience be as real as using an actual pen or brush. If you don't have the right specs, the stylus is beyond hyper sensitive, flailing about with every tremor or even every breath you take...Hmmm....a song just popped into my head!

 Well because I have been crazily creating beads and such in polymer clay, I haven't used my Wacomb Bamboo Fiun tablet in a while. I was shocked when my laptop said it wasn't compatible. When in doubt unplug and re-plug devices. That worked part way but, the software drivers were gone. Reinstalling them, I can now get back to drawing!

However, as this was happening, I assumed it had finally broke down and I would need a new tablet. Not wasting a minute, I hit  up Amazon and started searching sites for the best affordable tablets. That lead to also researching Digital art application reviews. Wanting to avoid spending mega dollars, I was interested in a fun/great online YouTube Artist named JAZZA!  I am not comfortable with all of his content and advise parental supervision if browsing his channel. But I really enjoy his great personality and artistic talent. Since he is a modern young artist, he can help me update my old traditional ways. The video I am posting here is definitely "Suitable for All Ages." I recommend watching this if you are interested in finding a free to under twenty dollars digital art making program. I am going with his first choice. You will have to watch to find out which one!

DIGITAL DRAWING: Illustrating to Convey A Point, Or To Tell A Story

Illustrating to Express A Thought or Make a Point
Something that I often need are drawings or cartoons to illustrate a point or a story in some of my other blogs and videos. (Click here to see a previous article about drawing with a mouse) We all grew up with story books being read to us. And the really memorable ones usually had incredible illustrations. Illustrations are all about drawing for a purpose. Especially if you are a Graphic or Commercial artist, or, you like to write and illustrate your own children's books. The ideas and uses are endless! You can become a graphic designer, illustrator, web designer, fashion illustrator...like I said, the possibilities, endless!
Drawing With A Purpose
Yesterday, I created this cartoon. If you are familiar at all with the Star Wars saga, you may think as I once did...Darth Vader is remembered forever saying to Luke Skywalker..."Luke, I am your father." Is that not how we all remember it? I have seen that episode at least ten times in what, thirty years?! Well it turns out, we are remembering it falsely because when we actually watch the movie, he says this....

Drawing With A Mouse!

I have been drawing and painting for almost half a century and didn't learn this method of drawing

until a few years ago! Being an old fashioned girl, I've used pencils, coloured pencils too, as well as pastels and markers, not to mention acrylic paint, for yes, painting! Drawing with my mouse was

something I played around with years ago but never took it seriously. But, about three years ago or more, the thought came to my mind, "I wonder if there are any drawing devices for the computer?"

Lo an behold, I found a Bamboo Wacomb drawing tablet on Amazon.ca and used the basic Corel program that came with it. 

Back to Kindergarten

However, when I first started with the more serious attempts at drawing digitally,  it was like being

five years old again. Five is great, but I am in my late forties and drawing is something I have done most of those years. So imagine picking up a pencil for the first time and having a shaking hand? That is what it was like. It took a lot of frustration and trial and error to discover software that could make my lines straighter.
If you have downloaded apps or software like Sketchbook Pro or iDraw, you may already have discovered what I did. I couldn't draw circles or straight lines, it was far too wobbly. Believe it or not it was easy to do with a pencil, but not on the computer. That was why at first, I would draw out the basics in pencil, then scan it and then draw over it with the mouse or tablet. See the picture to the right? See the pencil lines? That is real, good old fashioned pencil.
Never Give Up!
However, what kept me from giving up was being able to draw, colour and erase as many times as I wanted to. Not to mention, the fact that it was just easier for me to look up at my monitor and not with my neck bent down for hours. And the other awesome feature, some software simulates all art media like chalk pastels, watercolour paint, pen, marker, pencil and even various canvas or paper surface textures! Super cool.
Needless to say, I was inspired to not give up.  And by the way, you don't need the Bamboo drawing device, you can just use your mouse. In fact, some times it seems like you have more control with the mouse. Most computers come with paint programs that are free, so try it out.

Always Learning...
As, I am with all art forms, I am still learning the world of drawing digitally. Since this blog is intended to inspire creativity as well as offer up some lessons, I wanted to share some of my digital drawing attempts so far. I want to encourage you to try it if you haven't already or if you experienced frustration like I did, to say, don't give up! I would love to see your drawings. Message me if you have something you want to share. Remember to save your pictures so you don't lose them if your system crashes. Mine crashed when I didn't have enough RAM. Which is memory. If your computer slows down, every now an then save, and reboot. It will clear the RAM (Random Access Memory) and hopefully, give you some more drawing time.

The Bamboo by Wacomb device comes with a small flat surface that plugs into a USB port and a pencil like device. The programs I like to draw most with, as a beginner is an app called iDraw. For some reason the original software doesn't work anymore. With iDraw, you can control the steady part. Meaning you can make adjustments to help your line making, anywhere from 0-100% control.
