Polymer Clay Journey: Try This - Chameleon Beads

Hi guys! This is a short video talking about trying the Born Pretty chameleon nail art powders and flakes. Adding them to black or very dark polymer clay works the best. Theses pigments are amazingly beautiful. It is hard to believe that one powder or flakes can shimmer with two or more colours. It all depends on how the light hits the surface. To get more interesting effects, stamp textures into the clay and you will see even more great two tone effects! See the pictures of a few samples I have tried,

POLYMER CLAY ADVENTURE: AMACO BEAD BAKING RACK and SUGRU...Thanks Cindy Lietz!

Baking Polymer Clay beads was one of the first problems I had to solve when I began my polymer clay adventure. Yes, I saw what was out there. In fact, I just posted the Y/T videos by one of my favourite Poly Clay Artist/Tutors, Cindy Lietz, and now see videos below about bead baking racks on the market. Now that I know I love polymer clay, thanks to cindy's advice and reviews  I chose to purchase an AMACO bead rack. And also I took her advice on using SUGRU (click here to see how cool this stuff is) to improve the Amaco rack bead pin slots.
It works beautifully. I will share more on this in the future, but for now I couldn't wait and wanted to post this article as well as some more great Polymer Clay Tutor videos by Cindy Lietz on the subject of baking polymer clay and bead racks.

Baking Your Polymer Clay

The bead baking racks that you can buy, that I know of are the one you will see here made by AMACO. And then there is one by Sculpey Polyform and a new one made by a company called LUCY CLAY. A Cool Illustration!

Hi guys! I was working on some projects like Pinterest and blogs, and wanted thumbnail illustrations that were my own. Yes, there are public domain/free to use/copyright free, drawings and photos on the internet but hey, if you love drawing or are learning, it makes sense to make your own. Then it legally belongs to you and, it is original, no one anywhere will have your art work on their blog, web site, YouTube channel, or whatever social media site. If your work shows up somewhere, then it will have been stolen. Yes, stolen. But, I must say that with the age of the internet, I don't know how you can prevent others from copying original art work and photos. I have seen artists who have web sites with some kind of setting that disables any copying of their images. Or you can lay the word Copyright in a translucent way over an image. It is up to you. Just know that any original art work, including writing and photos, legally belong to the creator.

Personally, I draw because I love to and I want to make it visible, so for images like the one below, I don't want to cover it up with any watermarks. Just write copyright, the date and your name and use the honour system. I suppose if someone copies it , consider it a compliment.

For almost fifty years I have adored drawing, it is why I am an artist of course!. A lot has changed in my half century of living.  I now get to illustrate using  my computer! I have an article here about digital illustration, 

Thought I would share this quick illustration that I did just now to illustrate a pinterest board I have. I drew it using my Wacomb Bamboo drawing pad and stylus.But, you can use a mouse. The software is an app  called Graphic" and I colour using the app called Sketchbookpro 6. The reason I use Graphic app to draw is because it has a mode to help reduce my hand  shakiness. But Sketchbook is far better to paint and shade with. My dream software would be Adobe Illustrator, but, since it is hundreds of dollars, I prefer to work with affordable software. My apps are Apple compatible, but I know when I used Windows, there were affordable and free drawing/graphic programs as well.

Needle-less Knitting - Using A Spool!

Do you know how to knit? Even if you don't, most of us know that in order to knit, we need knitting needles. My Mom taught me how to knit when I was about seven years old, along with my favourite thing at the time, crocheting.

A really cool thing happened around that age, when my Dad told me about how he knitted as a kid using a wooden thread spool and some nails. It was called "Spool Knitting." Better still, he made me a spool just like he use to use and taught me how to spool knit! It was so easy, I did it a lot and was able to make pot holders and mini spiral rugs.I thought I would share some easy ways anyone can knit without knitting needles, Spool Knitting being one of those ways. Because I just got the idea today, I haven't had a chance to work on some illustrations to show what I am talking about, but I will try to get some done. Until then, I did some research and posted some pictures and videos with their links so you can hopefully be inspired to try out some of these ideas.

In fact I was excited to see so many ideas and how to lessons on making much larger, easier to use spools out of things like toilet paper tubes and ice cream containers!

Spool Ideas

Since modern day sewing thread spools are made of plastic, it can't be the kind we used with nails. But I found something better, you can make larger spools using toilet paper rolls and popsicle sicks or skewers. So cool!
