Polymer Clay Journey: Making Personalized Gifts- Figurines Tutorial. Video- Meet Jesse and Justin

Yes, I recently posted a compilation of the clay figurines I have created for gifts over the past couple of years. Strange thing is I thought I had videos of the beginning to end process on YouTube, but nope. So off to work I went and voila, here is a video intended to teach, encourage and inspire others to get out the polymer clay, tools, armature, powders, tape, tin foil and baking supplies and get sculpting your own personalized gift. My two male figures are about 8 inches tall. I don't have the patience for miniature scale.

POLYMER CLAY JOURNEY: My Compilation Of Polymer Clay Figures So Far....

I was watching a great broadcast that mentioned polymer clay figure making. That got me thinking about the few I have had fun making. Since I have created some, I thought I would make a compilation posting of my clay figures so far. I included the original post links and videos (for the ones I made videos for.)
A Side Thought Or Two On Originality.
Sculpting figures makes a great personalized gift of love. I prefer to do people I know and not characters. Years ago in College, we had it drilled into our heads about copyright so I always worry about breaching it. I would love to hear from anyone who knows how people copy trademarked or copyrighted images in clay, drawings, and other forms and avoid copyright infringement. The one key thing we were taught (in an Arts Administration program, was that the belief, if you aren't making money from it, it is okay to copy (in that class they specifically talked about music. Our Professor even said that technically, it was breaking copyright to even sing a song off the radio without permission/licensing fees. That class was twenty five years ago, maybe laws have slackened? As an art mentor, I always encourage budding young artists to be original. But, many grew up copying favourite characters from games, videos and such. Then I tell them it is okay to be inspired by other artists, but alter the image and make it your own. Be original guys. It is worth it!

Polymer Clay Journey: JJ Is Completed!

Meet the completed JJ. Here he is all done. I am happy to say that he is in his adopted new home. If you missed the first stages of his creation, just click here.

Accidents Happen

It was about the third bake in the oven, when my husband removed JJ, lo and behold he discovered JJ's legs exploded. At first the temptation was to give up and accept that I just couldn't fix it. But, my life as an artist has taught me to problem solve and figure out how to turn accidents or mistakes into a part of my pieces. Here are a few photos of JJ just after the explosion!

Poor JJ. Looks painful. :o( What to do.....

Well, I built a new leg using the broken pieces while the other one fell right off but I was still trying to figure out what to do. One option was to sink his missing leg into a snow bank or a really annoying dog!
